Hundested Aug 1 - 2

Let’s just say that August 1 is a day best forgotten. It started out well enough. There was bright sunshine and a a slight downwind breeze. We sailed for a while, even putting up the Code 0 sail for the first time this year. We finally had to concede and rolled up the foresail and turned on the motor. A while later, when I was in the cabin, Alan decided to try the Code 0 again. It became tangled at the top and would not roll or unroll. After some testy words we tied it to the mast and continued to motor. The harbour at Hudested is crowded and busy. I am not yet very good at box docks in tight spaces. Suffice it to say that while there was nothing injured or damaged, we retreated to an outside dock. As it turns out, this is quieter and more private. After tying up, we made another attempt to untangle the sail.

With no luck and short tempers we decided it was time for lunch (1600h). Tomorrow would be another day. Alan went to the automatic machine to pay for our dockage and had both credit cards refused. Visa even got to the point of blocking the card. – all for being Canadian (or at least not EU).

This morning (Aug2) ,although we had lots of offers of help last night as we were trying to unravel the sail, they had all disappeared by morning. After breakfast, and a trip to the havnecontour to pay our bill in person, it was time for Alan to go up the mast. Less than 25 minutes later we had the problem solved and the sail on the deck. The harbour is a center for creative types and it was fun to visit the many workshops and boutiks. I saw a gorgeous chandelier at the glass blowers. Maybe tomorrow I will have the nerve to ask how much. Alan loved the tiny woodworking shop.

There are lots of activities for children. A fishing pier just for them and a creative play park.

With today going well, Alan called Visa and had the issue with our card rectified. They were horrified that their card could be refused. So says someone who has probably never left the country.

As evening settles, the predicted wind has vanished and the harbour is quiet.
