Apparently I need to begin by correcting some terminology. I n my last post I referred to a “bolt” being cut off. It was actually a threaded tube. A local shop did an excellent job of lengthening it. They also provided us with a variety of SS plates for some little jobs. Alan is doing some last minute adjusting to the steering cables today. He had to figure out how to adjust the throw for the new engine,
We are preparing the boat for a survey next week. The surveyor gave us some hints on what was important. Make sure the boat won’t sink or catch fire. As a result we have been working on the thru hulls and the electricity.
Thru hulls are a messy job requiring lots of caulking – thick goopy glue. we managed to install four without too much mess. For anyone who knows Alan, that is an accomplishment. Engine, fridge coolant, knot meter, and depth sounder.
We are having an electrician on the boat tomorrow for a couple of hours to help install an inverter charger and to check all the work Alan has done.
We are delighted that our life raft arrived this week. We bought a Viking 4 person RescYou Pro from DSS Marine here in St. Laurent. They also arranged to have our EPIRB battery and the antenna replaced. The service was great and the prices competitive.They went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied. One of the reasons we decided we liked this one was the colour. No, I am not trying to colour coordinate. I actually read an article today about a rescue at sea. The search plane flew over an orange raft 3 times and missed spotting it. On the fourth pass they noticed a small patch of yellow from someone’s foul weather gear as the person was at the opening. Now our question is what to do with the old raft?
Let’s see. Some small jobs included fixing the drawer stops so they don’t come crashing out in a seaway.
More caulking to secure the cockpit floor. This means we are almost ready to take the shrink wrap cover off. All this is in addition to the usual errands and paperwork and some effort to compensate for a heat wave, rain and then close to zero temperatures. Today is a beautiful day.

The highlight of the week was when our grandchildren arrived with fresh baked goodies on Mother’s Day
