Jacksonville

We are tied up to Jacksonville Landing. Right in the middle of the city. We went for a walk last evening and managed to find a place to top up the cell phone.
Here are a few impressions and pictures of the last few days:

This is a cute little island we anchored next to near Titusville. If you look VERY carefully you can see the shuttle assembly building in the background.

Saturday was cool and cloudy when we came upon this disabled runabout. No radio, no life
jackets, no paddle, no warm clothes, basically no safety equipment save a tiny anchor. We towed them back (a couple of miles) to their truck and trailer. Needless to say - The girlfriend was not impressed. This was just one of those days - earlier we had gone aground due to inattention. We finally anchored in Daytona just to find out it was Race weekend - vroom vroom.

Here is the ugly temporary bridge replacing the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine. Up early for a 7 am opening.

Shipyard working on a frigate. With 4 bases, the US Navy is the largest employer in Jacksonville.

We passed many ships loading cargo and lots of tugs heading out. There must have been a ship coming in. We managed to convince the bridge tender to open the Mainstreet bridge just at 4:30, after charging along at top speed for the last 30 minutes, to let us past to our dock location. They close the bridge from 4:30 to 6 to boat traffic.

Another 55 miles and we will be in Palatka to get Voila! ready to haul out. I guess it is time to get moving.
